Corrupted ONLY if the majority allow it or participate. Far too many have no ethical core and do not build a moral code for themselves. To be an independent thinking living entity these steps are ma must or we remain controlled and manipulable juveniles to the benefit of others. As Benjamin Franklin stated, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". And I add they will get neither nor the comfort they seek and foolishly think they have in trinkets and toys. Liberty is a state of mind above all - autonomy IS life.

A few misconceptions in the Pilgrim story to my mind Michael. You have identified that the Pilgrims were negotiating a commercial deal through agents which considering the detail about this suggests it may be fact. In those years only a Merchant was permitted to carry on trade which is probably why the Pilgrims had to use agents to make a contract on their behalf. What they were essentailly being forced into was a Feudal contract near to slavery, and one in which all the physical risk as well as financial guarantee (debt) was with the Pilgrims, and the investors risk was purely financial. This mechanism was used by the two most successful colonial powersinf those days, the Dutch and the English.

Nearly ALL the legal people will adamantly tell you that Lex Mercatoria or Law Merchant is not Law, even though it is written into most nations' legislation in some way (try Bills of Exchange Acts). It existed over 6000 years ago in Sumer recorded on clay tablet in trade deals.

The Pilgrims, as are we today, were tricked into accepting a deal believing there could be no other for them. We are deliberately steered away, denied the knowledge of our right of existence to use the principals of Lex Mercatoria in our dealings with others. Religious persecution in the days of these Pilgrims was commonly used to enforce or support commerce particularly exploitive commerce.

Communism does not work because it both denies the rights of individuals and centralises control both of which are the opposite of what it claims. So called Free Enterprise is in principal wonderful and supposedly fundamental BUT in practice will be undermined and corrupted by individual greed and dishonour ( in contract). Just my ten cents worth

I've seen a number of other Substack writers say that their post was too long for email and to open in your browser. So I don't think that's a hard limit pop-up.

My nonpartisan thought on voting:

Vote in person, unless disabled or stationed away via military (as it was always done until recently). Show an ID to vote. We all need ID for everything else in life; it’s a myth that this is racist, etc.

No computer automation. It’s no good, inaccurate, problematic, slower, unsecure. Spend a fraction of the taxpayer $ wasted on bloated government contracts given to (crappy) software & hardware companies, on folks paid to count votes (with observers from all political parties observing).

Thank you for including Alice’s Restaurant. Years ago, while visiting my uncle in Athens Georgia, I had the privilege of seeing Arlo Guthrie perform this song in person.

---That didn’t work. There was a famine that nearly wiped the Pilgrims out in 1623 — two years after the first Thanksgiving.

***So the Pilgrims decided to divvy up the land.***

This provided the incentive to farm. They flourished.---

So, what does work is widely distributing the means of production (property) among the people!

Also, a kind of "communism"—or—what I think Catholic social theory calls "distributism."

I am somewhat surprised regarding the number of golf club members and no reported deaths/illnesses from the jab! It is with great sadness that personally I have had a number of friends and aquaintences who have ‘died suddenly’ post jab...2 here in Canada, one of whom was 37 yo, the other 67 yo both healthy and physically active males. Another from the USA and one from Australia...both males between 50 and 70, physically active. Then there is the female friend who suddenly was diagnosed with CJD, died about a month later...had had 2 jabs.

I also have a friend who has been diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at age 60 ....2 jabs later. All coincidences?

Alices Restaurant was one of the first songs I learned on guitar back in the day and I was just thinking about the protests songs from the 60's and early 70's and how rare they are these days. There is an LP I listened to this week called Silent War by Five Times August. Pure anti-current thing through and through. My favorites is Anti-Fascist Blues. Check it out.

Excellent! You've mastered Substack, at least as far as your readers are concerned.

I wish you. MD, and yours a happy and thankful Thanksgiving. Between your books, principles, and blogs, you do a LOT of people a LOT of good. Now, if I can only control the sweet tooth....

Your friend from NW Washington.
